Purpose and Duties of the Honor Guard

It is the mission of the Odessa Fire Rescue Honor Guard to be ambassadors of our profession and represent the department as a highly disciplined team serving with honor at public relation events, ceremonial functions, and with respect and dignity at funeral services.

Hand-picked to serve as a member of the Odessa Fire Rescue Honor Guard, my standards of conduct and level of professionalism must be above reproach, for I represent all others in my service.

Others earned the right to wear the ceremonial uniform, one that is rich in tradition and history. I will honor their memory by wearing it properly and proudly.

Never will I allow my performance to be dictated by the type of ceremony, severity of the temperature, or size of the crowd. I will remain superbly conditioned to perfect all movements throughout every drill and ceremony. Honor will be my guide.

Obligated to my oath, I am constantly driven to excel by a deep devotion to duty and strong sense of dedication. I vow to stand crisp and motionless for whose honor I guard until they are laid to rest and begin to take the long sleep in which reveille is yet to come.

Representing every member, past and present, of Odessa Fire Rescue as well as fellow brothers and sisters from fire and EMS agencies from across the nation, I will never compromise my integrity and will always set the example for others to follow. I, am a member of the Odessa Fire Rescue Honor Guard.
